Patriots Blog: Brady Impressed By Maturity Of Rookie James White
FOXBORO (CBS) -- The soon to be 37-year-old Tom Brady spoke to the media on Thursday, and the Patriots quarterback was extremely appreciative of his life.
He said the football field is his office and that beats any cubicle.
"I've been lucky to do something I really love to do," Brady said Thursday. "I'd love to keep doing it, so that's a great motivation for me to come out. Where else would I rather be? This is a lot better than any cubicle I could probably think of. It's a pretty good office."
Tom admitted that this second week of practice has been ramped up, as the offense and the defense have been getting after each other. When looking at the film at night, Tom said it kind of works out for both; sometimes the offense gets praise and sometimes it's the defense.
Brady also talked about first year running back James White. The rookie out of Wisconsin has turned heads in camp and is quickly making a name for himself. His new quarterback said there was positive talk about him when he got drafted and he can see why.
"He's got a real maturity for someone who is just getting out of college. He's made a lot of really great plays out here," Brady said of the fourth-round pick. "We're all trying to work to get better, and we're all trying to make improvements. We can all do it. The young players need to come out here and keep working hard, and he's one of those guys who has been out here every day so he's been able to do that. He's been able to make a mistake, get the correction, come out again and not make the mistake the next day, so it's been great.
"I think everyone thinks he can contribute to the team and he can make a big impact on the team. He's done that," continued Brady. "He's definitely someone who has come every day, and he makes really impressive plays for a young player. The more of those guys we have, the better we're going to be collectively, and that's what training camp really gives everybody an opportunity to do – because you get the chance, and you want to try to go out and show people what you're capable of, you want to go out and surprise people that they didn't think you're capable of something, and you show them that you can do it. That's where you really gain the trust of your coaches and your teammates."
Brady also said he can't wait to get to Richmond and practice against the Washington Redskins next week. It will offer the team a different look on both sides of the ball.
By the way, Brady turns 37 on Sunday. Here's to wishing him an early happy birthday.
