Child found safe after allegedly being kidnapped by father from Canton daycare
CANTON - A child allegedly kidnapped by his father from a Massachusetts daycare on Thursday was found safe in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
Police said Nathan Dorosario entered the Canton daycare and took his 18-month-old son. Police said he violated a restraining order issued just two days ago.
The urgent search started in Canton around 3:30 p.m. Family members say Dorosario showed up to the daycare where the baby's mom also works, forced himself inside, grabbed the child and took off.
Suspect and child located in Pawtucket
Pawtucket police said the suspect's vehicle was found after getting a hit on a license plate reader. "A location was pinpointed and the alleged suspect and child were located safely by Patrol," Pawtucket police said.
Investigators quickly tracked the dad's car to Webster Street in Pawtucket. A swarm of patrol cars surrounded the scene. Surveillance video shows him carrying a baby walking across a parking lot towards an adult outreach facility.
Krykette Kowalski witnessed the arrest. She saw police officers on foot close in on the dad and heard the baby crying.
"I seen a lot of cops out here surrounding a baby and a guy that was holding the baby," Kowalski said. "The cops asked the guy to put the baby down, he didn't want to."
"All they did was ask for the baby, they were calm," Kowalski said. "He put the baby down on the ground, the cops looked at the baby and then fire trucks came."
The baby was taken to the hospital to be checked out. Dorosario is being held on a Massachusetts fugitive from justice charge.
