Panic Time For Fantasy Owners? Mike Lockhart's Week 6 Outlook

BOSTON (CBS) - Week 6 of the fantasy football season is upon us and it's gut-check time for a lot of owners.

This is the time of the year when fantasy owners are starting to feel the heat get cranked up and see the season slip through their fingers, so don't be surprised to see a desperation trade or two be made in your league this week.

Even though five weeks have passed, there's still a lot of time left to turn your season around.

CBSBostonSports.com's Andrew Celani sat down once again with 98.5 The Sports Hub's fantasy expert Mike Lockhart, and the resident football buff says now is not the time to panic.

"If you're 1-4, honestly, the way this season has gone you're probably not out of it yet. A lot of leagues don't have undefeated teams right now. It's been an up-and-down season with a lot of guys under-performing. Patience is what I'm preaching right now. A guy like LeSean McCoy -- you know he's gonna come back to be the old LeSean McCoy at some point. If you do practice some patience, a guy like Andre Williams this week might pay off for you," said Lockhart.

"It's starting to turn a little bit. You saw Andre Ellington come back last week and have a big game. Having that bye week helped his injury. Just be a little patient. Things can change quickly. We're going into the second quarter of the season now, so you need to start looking ahead towards matchups. I wouldn't go panicking just yet."

Speaking of players who got off to slow starts, look no further than Broncos wideout Demaryius Thomas.

The fifth-year pro failed to top 100 yards in his first three games, and after a bye week in Week 4, Thomas came out guns blazing in Week 5 against Arizona, totaling 226 yards and 2 touchdowns in a huge breakout performance.

Lockhart likes Thomas again this week against the Jets.

"I think going forward you're going to see more of last week, especially this week going to New York. I think he's gonna have a huge week. He's my no. 1 receiver this week. I still have him pegged for 10 touchdowns this year. He's gonna be very good, sometimes guys will take touchdowns away -- there's a lot of talented guys on that offense. But I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think Peyton Manning and both Thomases -- Julius and Demaryius -- will have a huge day against the Jets."

Staying with the Jets, there's an old saying that if you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterback.

The J-e-t-s are in turmoil right now and are looking to avoid a 1-5 start, but that'll be very hard to do stopping Peyton Manning and company.

"The Broncos are definitely a top 10 defense for me this week. It's a little different going on the road, but the Jets are terrible. I understand why they're playing Geno Smith. Mike Vick is not gonna get you anywhere, and at this point it's still early in the second season for Geno Smith. You want to see what he can learn and if he can get better. But he doesn't even know the time zones. It seems to get getting worse, quite frankly," said Lockhart. "That offense is a wreck. I still do like Chris Ivory as a decent PPR back, a flex, maybe even an RB2 in some leagues."

There was a Tim Wright sighting in New England in Week 5, the tight end sent over from Tampa Bay in the Logan Mankins trade.

Wright had 5 catches for 85 yards and 1 touchdown against the Bengals, and many are wondering what his value is going forward.

"That was great [to see Wright produce]. He's a sneaky fantasy play this week. If you have Jimmy Graham on a bye, or maybe an injury, he's a guy I would definitely pick up this week and throw him in there," said Lockhart. "Why not? If he's gonna be involved in the offense and he's gonna be productive, great. I'll start him. He's definitely a good spot-start at this point. I don't know if I'd start him all season. With the Patriots it's always a question mark [about playing time], but I think he's a good option this week."

Lockhart also weighed in on Austin Davis, Sammy Watkins against New England D, and if the Seahawks secondary can be thrown on this week against Dallas.
