Report: 'Super Nice' Orioles Fan Returns David Ortiz 500th Home Run Ball

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (CBS) -- Big Papi's 500th home run ball would likely have fetched a pretty penny in an auction.

But the historic baseball made it back to Ortiz quickly on Saturday night, thanks to an unselfish fan wearing an Orioles jersey at Tropicana Field.

The Boston Herald reports that the young man got a "very nice package" in return for his generosity.

"He was very nice," Ortiz said, according to the The Herald. "He handed it to me, no problem. He was happy and proud doing it."

The fan is also choosing to stay anonymous for now, something Ortiz appreciates.

"He doesn't want many people to know about him, so I've got to respect that about him," he said.
