Old Man Of The Mountain Remembered, 13 Years After Fall

FRANCONIA NOTCH, N.H. (CBS) – Tuesday marked 13 years since an iconic New Hampshire landmark came crumbling down.

The Old Man Of The Mountain rock formation, which drew countless visitors to Franconia Notch for decades, fell from its perch on May 3, 2003. The natural structure was at least 198 years old, experts believe.

The old man's legacy has lived on through a small monument at the foot of the mountain, and people continue to pay their respects on the anniversary of the icon's demise.

"May 3 always dawns a little melancholy, no matter how many years pass," the Old Man Of The Mountain Legacy Fund posted on Facebook Tuesday.
