Car Slams Into Northboro Home After Chase On Rte. 290
NORTHBORO (CBS) -- A car that was involved in a police chase early Sunday morning crashed into a Northboro home--and the suspects are still on the loose.
Police say shortly after midnight, they were chasing a black Acura that was speeding with two people inside on Route 290. The pursuit ended when the two suspects got off the highway. Moments later, police found the car smashed into the front steps of the Cone residence on Hudson Street.
The homeowners, Susan and John Cone, were sleeping at the time, and were not hurt--though a building inspector called to the scene said the house was no longer safe to live in as it was not structurally sound.
"I thank God that they hit that platform because they would've went through the house," John Cone said.
The Cone family is thankful everyone is all right. Inside asleep were the Cones' two children and their elderly parents.
"I was woken up by the screech coming around the corner. Then you hear this massive bang and the whole house shook," Sara Cone said.
"It was very scary. Our first concern were our elderly in-laws next door," Susan Cone said.
The two people inside the car ran off on foot, and could not be found after a K-9 search, State Police said.
"I thought the State Police dogs would've caught them. I got confidence to get these two," John Cone said.
State Police towed the car away for evidence as they try to identify the two suspects who were in the car.
Meanwhile, the Cones are assessing the damage and counting their blessings this Thanksgiving Day week even though their holiday plans will have to change.
"It's just amazing the amount of damage, but I am glad everyone is okay," Matthew Cone said.
