Man Arrested For Allegedly Breaking Into North End Homes From Rooftop
BOSTON (CBS) - A suspect in several North End break-ins forced police to jump from roof to roof to catch up with him.
Kennan Lagreze says she was at home with her husband on Thacher St. in the North End when police say 24-year-old Damian Tejada of New York tried to break into their apartment by scaling walls and climbing on nearby rooftops.
"He was stomping on our skylight," Lagreze said.
Lagreze says her husband asked the man to leave.
"He turned around and started yelling at him about how his life was in danger, some nonsense, and he started trying to open the window," Lagreze said. "My husband held the window so it wouldn't break."
Tejada eventually left them alone but then attempted to break into several other apartments on North Margin Street again by jumping from another rooftop.
"He was yelling some stuff, he thought he was in the Bronx I guess," Lagreze said.
When police arrived they gave chase and searched other rooftops looking for Tejada and eventually found him inside one of the apartments where they arrested him.
"We've had drunk people on the roof before so I didn't really think anything of it until he started pushing on the window," Lagreze said.
Some neighbors are deeply concerned about the incident. "It's kind of crazy to think that somebody might be doing that," another resident said.
Tejada faces several charges including two counts of breaking and entering. Nobody was injured.
