NH Troopers Bust Mom Who Allegedly Kidnapped Daughter From New Orleans

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (CBS/AP) — A woman charged as a fugitive from justice for allegedly kidnapping her 11-year-old daughter will appear in a New Hampshire court, after state police arrested her during a traffic stop in Portsmouth.

Officials say New Hampshire state trooper Haden Wilber stopped a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Andrea Brooks — address unknown — on Interstate 95 Friday. During a records check, Wilber discovered Brooks was wanted on a warrant issued two days earlier, charging her with kidnapping her 11-year-old daughter from New Orleans.

New Hampshire police — working with police in Massachusetts and the FBI — located the girl at an apartment in Dorchester, Mass.

She was transported to Carney Hospital as a precaution and subsequently released to the custody of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.  Authorities say arrangements are being made to return her to her father in Louisiana.

Brooks is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth District Court Monday.
