On Saturday morning, police said there haven't been any new sightings. They are still warning people to be alert and be safe while spending time outdoors, especially if they own a pet.

The bear was seen sleeping in the area of Rowe Street, and the city sent out a robocall warning residents to stay indoors and also turn on their motion detectors.

Newton Lt. Bruce Apotheker says officers responded and did find the bear. Environmental police responded and searched backyards in the area.

Police believed they had the bear cornered, but it managed to get away. The bear may have wandered into the Auburndale area, police said.

If you spot the bear, call Newton police.
