Connecticut Murder Suspect Arrested In Halifax Break-Ins

HALIFAX (CBS) – A young man wanted for murder in Connecticut has been arrested for a series of break-ins in Halifax.

"I came out and I looked around and the screen doors were punched out of the garage," said Mike DelRosso, who discovered someone broke into his Brandeis Circle garage.

This unfolded after his neighbor called him early one morning, and said someone got into his own car and truck. His neighbor just across the street, Jim Keegan, was also a victim.

"There was a muddy footprint on the toilet bowl so I knew someone was in the house," Keegan said.

Both victims say the suspect didn't get away with much. The two are relieved knowing 18-year-old Jamir Johnson is in custody in connection to several house break-ins and more than 50 car break-ins in the Halifax and Pembroke areas.

"We got a bad guy off the streets and thankfully no one was hurt," Keegan said.

Halifax Police said Johnson was spotted on a bike around 3:30 Tuesday morning while they were staking-out the Brandeis Circle neighborhood.

Prosecutors said that he was wearing similar clothes to those seen on surveillance video from another victim's camera.

While being processed, Halifax Police found an arrest warrant for Johnson out of New London, Connecticut. He's wanted there for the murder of a man in December 2017.

"It was a little bit of a wake up when I found out that he was armed. In my house with a gun and he's wanted for murder," Keegan said.

Johnson is being held on $50,000 bail on the Massachusetts charges. He's being held without bail on the Connecticut murder charge and waived his right to extradition.
