Stepfather Held On $25,000 Bail Following Toddler's Death

HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — The stepfather of a New Hampshire toddler who died is being held on $25,000 bail on charges of child endangerment, drug possession and falsifying evidence.

Leo Witham, of Hampton, was arraigned Tuesday. The 19-month-old boy died last week.

Police said the 30-year-old Witham brought the child to the Hampton Fire Department after noticing he was unresponsive. They said they found an open container of fentanyl at Witham's home.

The child's death is still under investigation.

Witham's case was assigned to the public defender's office. He is scheduled to be back in court on Oct. 19 for a probable cause hearing.
