National Guard Called In To Help Overwhelmed New Hampshire Hospitals

CONCORD, N.H. (CBS) - The National Guard has been called in to help overwhelmed hospitals in New Hampshire.
Right now, hospitalizations are at their highest levels since the start of the pandemic. The Guard will help hospitals with the overload of patients. Guard members will not work directly with patients, but will free up hospital staff who are needed elsewhere.
On Wednesday, only 3% of ICU beds were available, a number that Gov. Chris Sununu said is alarming.
"The reality of what is happening inside of the hospitals is scary stuff," Sununu said. "It really is. It is a different clientele ... it's a younger group than traditionally we have seen in the past," Sununu said.
About 55% of New Hampshire residents are fully vaccinated.
