Revolution Trade Jermaine Jones To Colorado Rapids

BOSTON (CBS) – The New England Revolution have traded midfielder Jermaine Jones to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a 2017 draft pick.

On Friday, the team announced that it shipped Jones, a member of the United States Men's National Team, to the Rapid in exchange for Colorado's natural first-round pick in the 2017 draft.

Jones scored three goals and notched six assists in 33 games with the Revolution. New England added Jones to its roster as a designated player in August 2014.

In December, Major League Soccer announced Jones had been suspended for the first six games of the MLS season.

The suspension came after Jones' actions toward referee Mark Geiger near the end of the Revolution's 2-1 playoff loss against D.C. United on Oct. 28.

Jones, upset that a hand ball had not been called on D.C. United in the penalty area, was given a yellow card when he ran at the referee who did not blow his whistle. Jones then pushed the ref and received a red card.

The Revolution open their season on Sunday with a road match against the Houston Dynamo.
