New England Fishing Communities Get Disaster Aid

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen says coastal New England states are getting $32.8 million in disaster relief funding for communities that have suffered severe economic losses due to declining fish populations.

Shaheen said the funding announced Wednesday is part of $75 million being sent from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to affected fishing communities in several regions of the country.

Shaheen was among a bipartisan group of senators who met with NOAA officials recently to discuss the disaster relief.
