BOSTON (CBS) – A new trailer for the movie Black Mass provides a look at Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger, who Hollywood dubs "The most notorious gangster in U.S. history."

Watch: Warner Bros. Pictures Releases New 'Black Mass' Trailer

Warner Bros. Pictures released the trailer on Friday, showing new scenes in addition to the teaser trailer that was published in April.

Along with Depp's role as Whitey Bulger, Benedict Cumberbatch plays Bill Bulger. Other stars such as Adam Scott and Kevin Bacon are also in the film.

Portions of the movie were filmed in the Boston area.

When the initial trailer was released, Patricia Donahue told WBZ-TV she believed Hollywood was glamorizing a killer.

Donahue's husband Michael was killed by Bulger as he was giving a friend a ride home.

Bulger, 84, was convicted in 2013 of a string of murders from the 1970s and '80s, as well as extortion, money-laundering and weapons charges.

The notorious gangster was sentenced to two life sentences plus five years.

Black Mass opens in theaters on September 18.
