Police detective shot in New Bedford, injury not life-threatening
NEW BEDFORD - A New Bedford police detective was wounded in a shooting Monday night. It happened near the intersection of Rivet Street and Orchard Street at about 8:45 p.m.
New Bedford Police said the officer is receiving medical treatment and the injury is not considered to be life-threatening.
The investigation remains active. New Bedford officers and State Police troopers searched the area for evidence with K-9s Monday night.
Witnesses told WBZ the wounded officer was not in uniform at the time of the shooting. Police have not confirmed any other injuries, but witnesses say at least one other person was also shot.
No other information has been released.
