2 Critically Injured; Natural Gas Eyed As Cause Of Dorchester House Explosion
BOSTON (CBS) – A house explosion in Dorchester appears to have been caused by natural gas, firefighters said.
The blast knocked the two-and-a-half story home at 27 Hansborough Street off its foundation around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens reports
The explosion triggered a fire which spread to all floors.
"The windows on my house actually came down. I just felt like hot air in my face. I just grabbed my dog and ran out of the house," a resident told WBZ-TV.
Dorothy Robinson lives next door.
"I heard this 'kaboom' noise. I thought it was an earthquake, so I jumped up and ran into my kitchen and looked out the window and I saw all these flames shooting from this house," she told WBZ.
It took crews more than an hour to get the fire under control.
Twelve people were hurt, two of them seriously.
Officials say two elderly victims are in critical condition. Five children, their parents and three neighbors were all taken to area hospitals and treated for minor injuries. A firefighter was also injured.
Authorities are still trying to determine whether the natural gas that exploded came from inside or outside the home.
