National Guard Vehicle Used To Rescue Families Stranded In Their Homes

MARSHFIELD (CBS) -- Crews in Marshfield used a National Guard vehicle to rescue several families trapped within their own homes Thursday.

In some cases, residents called for help after waves crashed through their living room windows.

The vehicle used by the National Guard would have been the only way for officials to reach the houses through all the flooding.

Jennifer Cametti was rescued up the street from her house. She told WBZ-TV's David Robichaud she had been trying to get back to her house, where her son and daughter were, by car.

"I went to move my car and I couldn't get back to them," said Cametti. "I went into a house up the street and it was just coming down. It was like up to my waist. I couldn't get back."

When that didn't work, she got out and tried to continue on foot, above her neighbors yelled for her to be careful, to stop, and to wait for rescue crews.

"It was scary, and I wanted to get out," recalled Cametti's daughter, Nicole after they were reunited. "They came up to the front door and he put me over his shoulders and put me in the car."

Those who were stranded had been placed in the back of the truck and were brought to a fire station where they were reunited with their family members.

Alex Cametti said, "there was a lot of water outside, it looked like there was about two feet and there was cars outside almost completely under water. And then there was water coming in the back door, right into the kitchen."

He added, "Thank you for helping us. I don't know what we would have done without them."

As for Mom's car? It has floated away.
