'It Was Just Devastating,' Man Trapped In Natick House Fire Dies

NATICK (CBS) – A man trapped in a house fire in Natick overnight died early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called to a home on Longfellow Road just after 2 a.m. and found it engulfed in flames.

"There was neighbors in the back that saw the fire. We believe the fire started in the rear of the house. Neighbors saw the fire and made the call," said Natick Fire Chief Mike Lentini.

"It was like a fireball over there. Heavy black smoke. It was just devastating," neighbor Joe Zanchi told WBZ-TV.

He said the fire was so intense it blew out all of the windows in the home.

"When we came out here, my son and I, we were going to try and approach the building and go in. I went around the side of it, there were flames at that point leaping out the back second story about 6 or 8 feet and there's no way you could get in there."

Once firefighters were able to get inside, they found a man dead in the back of the home. His name has not been made public.

The man's wife did make it out, but there's no word yet on her condition.

"It's just hard to image this kind of thing could happen," Zanchi said.
