Mother Stabs Son While Arguing Over Pet Birds, New Hampshire Police Say
MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) -- A mother stabbed her teenage son in the back during an argument over his pet birds, Manchester police say.
The 18-year-old victim told police that he and his mother, 40-year-old Bernadette Alvarez, had been arguing Sunday morning in their Belmont Street apartment. According to the victim, his mother was planning to get rid of two pet birds.
"He stated his mother woke him up and started to argue with him about his birds as he remained inside of his bedroom," police said. "Next, he allegedly walked into the kitchen area and continued to argue about his beloved pets."
Police said that at some point during the argument, Alvarez stabbed her son in the back with a kitchen knife. The son is being treated for a serious, but non-life-threatening stab wound.
Alvarez is charged with first degree assault, and falsifying physical evidence because police say she wiped the knife clean.
She was scheduled to appear in Manchester District Court on Monday.
