Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods Report Decline In Bets, Revenue

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut's Indian-run casinos have reported declines in slot machine betting and revenue for August.

Mohegan Sun said Monday total slot machine bets in August totaled $674.3 million, down 3.7 percent from $700.4 million in August 2013. The share of wagers known as revenue was $56.2 million in August, down less than half of 1 percent, from about $56.4 million in the same month last year.

Foxwoods Resort Casino said total slot bets were $565.1 million, down 3.7 percent. Slot revenue of $46.9 million was down 3.3 percent from August 2013.

With few exceptions, betting and revenue have fallen steadily at the two casinos, which are facing tough competition in the Northeast and continuing weakness in consumer demand.

Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods are each seeking to operate resort casinos in Massachusetts.
