'Ice Bucket Challenge' Going Viral To Raise Awareness About ALS
BOSTON (CBS) - Across the country, ice bucket "challengers" have been dumping buckets of ice water over their heads and posting the videos online in support of loved ones affected by the devastating disease ALS.
As friends dare each other through social media, the event has gone viral.
There was a group event Tuesday morning at Boston Police headquarters as officers accepted the challenge to honor former Boston College baseball player Pete Frates, who is fighting his own battle with ALS, which is also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Frates, 29, was diagnosed with ALS about two years ago.
He and his friends and family have been raising money and awareness about the disease.

Salt from Mix 104.1 also took the "Ice Bucket Challenge" this week to raise awareness for ALS and he wants you to join him.
He also called out WBZ-TV's morning news team Tuesday to participate in the event.
Several well-known athletes have already done their part.
