Minor League Manager Goes Viral After Throwing Nutty Vs. Single-A Red Sox
BOSTON (CBS) -- Whenever a video from minor league baseball starts to make the rounds on the web, it can only mean one thing: A manager went nuts.
That's certainly the case today, thanks to Myrtle Beach Pelicans manager Joe Mikulik losing his cool -- and then some -- over the weekend.
Mikulik is no stranger to Internet fame. He blew his top back in 2006 when he was managing the Asheville Tourists, famously lifting the second base bag out of the ground and showing it to an umpire before heaving the base and the rosin bag into the outfield and throwing bats from the dugout onto the field. In 2012, he was once again a YouTube star, this time removing the third base bag and giving it to a fan in the stands.
Well, this past weekend, he was back at it, this time as the manager of the Single-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Mikulik disagreed with a call at home plate that went against his team, and he let the home plate umpire know about it.
Mikulik twice recreated a slide into home plate before removing both of his shoes and his jersey and leaving them at the plate. The manager then gave a "safe" sign, just for good measure.
Check it out below:
Mikulik's team was playing against the Salem Red Sox, and the Salem bat boy deserves high praise for his stoicism during the grand display taking place right in front of him.
