Melrose Man Accused Of Impersonating Federal Agents In Embezzling Scheme

BOSTON (CBS) – A Melrose man is accused of impersonating a federal agent in an embezzling scheme.

Authorities say Gjerji Pelushi, originally from Albania, bilked thousands of dollars from two people.

Pelushi allegedly told the victims he worked for the FBI or CIA and could get them a law enforcement job or help them deal with a legal problem.

The victims paid for Pelushi's help because he allegedly told them repeatedly he worked for the federal agencies.

Pelushi also allegedly claimed to have patrolled this year's Boston Marathon in plain clothes while armed and said "the director" told him to "shoot in the head" anyone who "reached for the bag" when ordered to stop.

Federal agents conducted a four-month undercover operation to investigate Pelushi.

If convicted on the federal charges he could face up to three years in prison.
