McAdam On Red Sox: This Isn't Chicken & Beer 2.0, But It Looks Bad

BOSTON (CBS) - Sean McAdam of CSNNE called Toucher & Rich early Friday morning from the Atlanta airport before he takes off to cover the Red Sox again in Kansas City.

Boston's 5-2 win in Atlanta Thursday night was nice, but all everybody is talking about right now on the Sox is their benching of Pablo Sandoval for using Instagram in the bathroom during a game.

McAdam discussed what it's been like covering the team during their precipitous drop to the laughingstock of the American League with T&R, and how this season is starting to draw comparisons to another collapse in recent team history.

"I have not seen any evidence that we are looking at a re-run of the chicken and beer controversy in 2011. There's no clubhouse insurrection or anything like that, but anecdotally this stuff starts to add up and it doesn't look good," McAdam said.

Boston's record, 29-39, is bad enough, but the play on the field has just been atrocious. Focusing in on just American League rankings, the Red Sox are 11th in runs scored, dead last in in team ERA (4.47), and have committed the 11th most errors.

That is the mark of a team that is simply just not very good.

"When you take a look at some of the stuff that has gone on on the field, not just the losing which is bad enough, but the way in which they've lost [is bad too]," McAdam added, pointing to the comedy of errors displayed on a nightly basis on some of the simplest baseball know-how.

McAdam also talked about fans of the Kansas City Royals stuffing the All-Star Game ballot box and much more.
