MBTA Ends Honor Box Parking Payment System
BOSTON (CBS/AP) — The MBTA's so-called "honor box" payment system is gone.
Starting Monday, commuters at unstaffed T parking lots can no longer pay for parking by folding up dollar bills and stuffing them into tiny slots.
MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 more than 75 percent of customers already use Pay by Phone, which allows you to pay your parking fees on mobile devices.
They're urging cash customers to sign up for this method or consider purchasing a monthly parking pass, which brings discounts.
If commuters don't want to sign up for anything, the T will mail you a monthly bill, with an additional 50 cents added to parking fees.
The change does not apply to MBTA parking garages or stations where there are parking attendants.
