Blue Line Power Outage Causes Delays, Passenger Evacuations
BOSTON (CBS) – A power issue on the Blue Line caused commuter delays as passengers were forced to get off trains and walk through the tunnel between stations.
The MBTA said power was lost to the third rail on the westbound track between Maverick and Aquarium. After about an hour, power was restored and workers were moving the disabled train.
A one-track operation was put into place on the eastbound side between the Government Center and Airport stations while the issue was resolved. The MBTA said delays of about 20 minutes resulted from the outage.
"The MBTA apologizes for the disruption in regularly scheduled service," the MBTA said.
Buses were dispatched to shuttle passengers between stations.
Though service has since resumed, commuters were left frustrated.
"They should fix what they've got. They keep asking for money, they get the money, then half the stuff is breaking down they already put up. What do you want?" one woman told WBZ-TV.
