Mayors Combine Forces At Climate Change Preparedness Summit
BOSTON (CBS) – Officials from a group of cities in the Boston area agreed to combine forces in an effort to be more prepared for the impact of climate change.
UMass-Boston was the host of this year's Metro Mayors Climate Preparedness Summit, which brought together the leaders of 14 cities in the area.
During the event, each of the municipalities agreed to create the Metro Boston Climate Preparedness Commitment, which allows the cities to pool information and resources.
Officials will also be a part of a task force that meets every two months to assess the area's preparedness for extreme weather events.
Mayors said things like large storms, flooding, and coastal erosion create the need to be prepared as a region for climate change related events.
"We know there are going to be continual extreme weather events. We need to make sure we're prepared and our roads are more resilient," said Newton Mayor Setti Warren. "We're doing a full evaluation of what took place in the winter so we're prepared in the future. Again, another real life example for residents."
