Mayor Walsh Asks Lawmakers For Later Closing Time At Bars
BOSTON (AP) — Boston Mayor Martin Walsh is again asking state lawmakers to consider allowing bars and restaurants in the city to remain open past the current 2 a.m. closing time.
Walsh formed a Late Night Task Force last year to examine ways of creating a vibrant but safe late-night culture in Boston. He says allowing some establishments to stay open later would complement the work of that task force.
The mayor, who served in the Legislature before becoming mayor, has filed a total of 56 bills for the 2015-2016 session on Beacon Hill.
Walsh is urging lawmakers to provide non-violent drug offenders with more access to addiction treatment. He also wants to give financial assistance to military families that are unable to afford funeral expenses for a veteran.
