Mayo Undergoes Surgery, Should Be Ready For Training Camp
BOSTON (CBS) -- Jerod Mayo underwent surgery to fix a torn pectoral muscle on Tuesday and should be good to go when training camp rolls around this summer.
WBZ-TV's Dan Roche broke the news, citing a team source.
The Patriots placed the 29-year-old Mayo on injured reserve last week after he suffered the injury in New England's Divisional Round win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mayo was a part-time starter on the Patriots this season but saw action in all 16 regular season games, when he logged eight starts and recorded 47 tackles. It was Mayo's first full season after injuries limited him to just 10 games in both the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
While Mayo is expected to be healthy for training camp, it's unclear if he'll be in Foxboro when the 2016 season gets underway. After restructuring his contract ahead of the 2015 season, Mayo is due a $4 million bonus and will carry a $11.4 million cap hit for next season, making him a potential candidate to be cut.
The Patriots drafted Mayo with the 10th overall pick back in 2008. He's played in 103 regular season games with the Patriots, recording 537 tackles and 11 sacks, adding another 29 total tackles in seven career postseason games.
