Firefighters monitoring air quality after Sudbury greenhouse fire

SUDBURY - Firefighters and a Hazmat team are monitoring air conditions in Sudbury after a massive fire at the Cavicchio Greenhouses Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the property on Codjer Lane at about 2:40 p.m. A 60 by 100-foot storage building containing equipment and fertilizers was engulfed in fire.

Approximately 70 firefighters from around the region responded.

Because of the presence of fertilizers, residents near the fire are being asked to keep their windows and doors closed until further notice.

"I want to assure residents in the area that we are monitoring air conditions as a precaution and will alert residents to take additional steps if conditions become a concern," Sudbury Fire Chief John Whalen said.

There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
