Man Killed In Tractor-Trailer Pileup On Massachusetts Turnpike In Blandford Has Been Identified
BLANDFORD (CBS) – The man killed in an early-morning crash in the bad weather on the Massachusetts Turnpike on Thursday has been identified.
Robert Epps, 41, of Bronx, N.Y., died at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after his box truck was hit by a tractor-trailer.
State Police say a tandem tractor-trailer lost control in the eastbound lanes and crashed into another tractor-trailer, a box truck and a pickup truck. It happened in Blandford in western Massachusetts around 2:40 a.m.
Five people were taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Four were treated for minor injuries.
The crash came at a time when there was freezing rain falling, following overnight snow, causing the speed limit to be reduced to 40 miles per hour.
All lanes re-opened around 8:30 a.m.
No other information is available at this point in the investigation, but weather and road conditions are believed to have been a factor in the crash. No charges have been filed.
