Trooper Shot In Standoff With Auburn Officer's Killer Released From Hospital

BOSTON (CBS) – The Massachusetts State Police trooper who was injured in an exchange of gunfire with the man suspected of killing an Auburn Police officer has been released from the hospital.

State Police said Friday the Special Tactical Operations Team (STOP) trooper was shot in the shoulder by Jorge Zambrano on Sunday inside an Oxford duplex.

Police said previously Zambrano jumped out of a closet and began firing.

Zambrano was wanted for shooting and killing Officer Ronald Tarentino during a traffic stop earlier in the day.

The unidentified trooper had remained in UMass Hospital-Lakeside until Thursday.

"The injured Trooper continues to recuperate and will eventually undergo a rehabilitation program," State Police said.

A funeral was held Friday for Tarentino, attended by thousands of police officers from around the region and country.
