Armed Carjacking Suspect Arrested After Chase From Webster To Worcester

WORCESTER (CBS) – State and Worcester police have arrested man wanted for leading them on several chases after an armed carjacking early Thursday morning.

Police say 28-year-old Donald Foy was taken into custody Thursday night after a foot pursuit that ended on a roof in Worcester.

It started around midnight when Webster Police pulled over a Dodge pickup on Route 395 because it was not registered. While officers were waiting for a tow truck, police say Foy took off, grazing an officer and leading them on a chase.  At one point, the driver went the wrong direction in a southbound lane.

State Police joined the pursuit in Oxford and slowed the truck down by damaging it's tires with stop sticks. But the driver kept going onto Route 290 east in the wrong direction and crashed.

"The male driver of the vehicle exited the pickup and, while brandishing a handgun, forced the driver of a silver Buick Enclave from that vehicle. The suspect fled in the Enclave, which is registered out of Connecticut," State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said in a statement early Thursday.

Troopers found the stolen Buick and went after it in Worcester. The driver got back on Route 290, once again driving in the wrong direction, going east on the westbound side of the highway.

"Approximately a minute later, around 12:30 a.m., Troopers terminated the pursuit as it entered the Kelley Square area," Procopio said.

No one was hurt during the pursuit. Police say Foy has a long criminal history.

"Once they told him they were going to tow the car, obviously things escalated. We're very fortunate that no one was hurt," Webster Deputy Police Chief Michael Shaw told WBZ-TV. "It just goes to show how dangerous this job is. There was a firearm in that car, if he later carjacked somebody, this thing could have ended up a lot worse."

Two women who were passengers in the pickup truck are being interviewed by officers to determine if they will be charged.
