Massachusetts enters drier stretch after Monday snow

Next Weather: WBZ Weather Forecast

BOSTON - There's good news - Monday night's storm is largely over. For the rest of Monday afternoon and evening, we are left with just some ocean-effect snow showers over portions of southeastern Massachusetts.

These showers could drop an additional coating here and there over parts of Plymouth County and Cape Cod, but we are not expecting much additional impact.

Snowfall totals were highest in northern Worcester county (in elevated areas) with this storm. Accumulations dropped off quickly in the lower elevated areas in eastern MA.

Boston received just a few tenths of an inch of snow.

This extends the City's streak of days with less than 4" of snow from one storm, now over 700 days!

Perhaps the bigger story as we near the end of January, is the sheer amount of water the region has received in the last couple of months.

As of midnight, Boston had its 5th wettest January on record. That will move to 4th after Monday's numbers come in.

The City of Worcester will be in third place (all-time) after today with just over 8 inches of water in January.

CBS Boston

If you combine December and January, Boston has had its 5th wettest stretch on record.

For those same months, Worcester stands at No. 1 with over 15 inches of water.

Now for some good news. We are headed into a drier stretch of weather for a while.

The last two days of January will be dry.

And, it also looks like a rather quiet and dry start to February with just a few rain/snow showers possible Thursday and Friday.

CBS Boston

Tuesday will be the coldest day of the week and then, a moderating trend later this week.

By then end of this week we will get back to post-5 p.m. sunsets!

And if you are one of those Groundhog Day believers, it looks pretty cloudy on Friday in both Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

Therefore, odds are high that the rodents will NOT see their shadows, thus bringing about an early spring.
