Mass. State Trooper Helps Rescue Teen From Icy Water In Fall River

FALL RIVER (CBS) -- A Massachusetts State Trooper pulled a 15-year-old out of frozen water to safety in Fall River on Friday.

Police were called to Britland Park after the teen tried to retrieve a soccer ball that had fallen onto an icy canal.

The teen, who weighs about 220 pounds, fell through the ice and that's when several of his friends formed a human chain to keep him above the water until help arrived.

Trooper Kyle Duarte was the first to arrive on scene, and he, along with the teen's friends, were able to pull the teen out of the water and over a five-foot wall.

"We was in shock. He really couldn't move," recalled Duarte.

The teen had been up to his neck in water for about five minutes. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
