Mass. Man Killed In Fiery Crash Near Pittsburgh, Penn.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Massachusetts man has been identified as the driver killed in a fiery crash earlier this week in the high-occupancy vehicle lanes of Interstate 279 north of Pittsburgh.
The Allegheny County medical examiner's office says 26-year-old Stephen Quinn, of Newbury, Mass., died of head and chest injuries before his vehicle caught fire after crashing about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Authorities could not immediately identify the body because it was so badly burned.
State police say the sport-utility vehicle was headed north in Ross Township when it hit a concrete retaining wall and burst into flames after flipping over.
Troopers continued Thursday to investigate the cause of the crash.
Quinn was the only person known to be in the vehicle, even though the lanes are reserved for those with two or more occupants.
