BOSTON (CBS/AP) -- A 24-year-old Woburn man with a meat cleaver in his car was taken into custody outside federal court during the Boston Marathon bomber's sentencing on Wednesday.

Police say Patrick Carrerio drove through a security barrier and parked in a restricted area outside the courthouse. He was handcuffed by authorities and placed in a police SUV.

Officers searched the Carrerio's Honda CRV, and removed the meat cleaver. There were no registration plates on the vehicle.

Carrerio told officers that he was at the courthouse to express his opposition and dissent with the death penalty.

Police say Carrerio did not use or threaten anyone with the knife.

He was arrested and charged with Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct and the Unlawful Possession of a Dangerous Weapon.

Several survivors made statements Wednesday at the courthouse, where Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was set to be formally sentenced to death for his role in the Boston Marathon bombing.

The incident occurred while the court was taking a recess for lunch.
