Witness says employee stabbed coworker at Mattapan Star Market

Witness: Star Market employee stabbed coworker in Mattapan

BOSTON - A man was stabbed inside the Star Market on River Street in Mattapan Tuesday afternoon. Witnesses say it was two workers who got into an argument near the deli counter of the store. One of them allegedly grabbed a butcher knife and stabbed the other.

"Wow that's really shocking. Especially over here in this neighborhood, I definitely wouldn't expect that at all, I'm very taken aback especially as I'm about to walk in with my kids," a woman said holding a small child.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive. Police arrested 47-year-old Trevor Charlton from Hyde Park.

"It's crazy, I definitely wouldn't expect anything like that to happen here. I've been here a bunch and it's crazy that something like that would happen," said shopper John Hayes.

Star Market officials sent a statement saying, "we work diligently to provide a safe shopping and workplace environment."

Families who shop at the grocery store with their children say its concerning to have violence in such a public place.

"It's just really sad that you can't even go shopping in peace and feel safe it's just crazy how bad the violence is out here today," said Shaunte Cornett.

Police say the incident is still under investigation. Charlton will be arraigned Wednesday in Dorchester District Court.
