Man Shot To Death In Fall River

FALL RIVER (CBS) -- Law enforcement authorities have made an arrest in the killing of a Fall River man early Sunday morning, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office reported.

At about 12:55 a.m., the Fall River Police received 911 calls about a man being shot outside of the Ship's Cove Apartment complex at 130 Canal St. When emergency crews arrived, the found a man who had been shot near a loading dock outside the apartment building, the DA's office reported in a prepared statement.

The man, who was identified as David Rodriguez, 26, of 130 Canal St., was rushed to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Sunday night, District Attorney Sam Sutter and Fall River Police Chief Daniel Racine announced that William Tate, 34, of East Providence, R.I., was arrested Sunday afternoon in East Providence in connection with the killing.

Tate was arrested on Point Street in East Providence and charged in Massachusetts with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He was also charged in Rhode Island as being a fugitive from justice.

Tate will be arraigned on the fugitive from justice charge Monday morning in Providence District Court in Rhode Island, the DA's office reported. The date and time of his arraignment on the murder and firearm charges in Massachusetts will be dependent on whether Tate waives rendition to Massachusetts in court Monday.

The medical examiner is expected to conduct an autopsy by Monday to determine the official cause and manner of Rodriguez's death, the DA's office said.

Assistant District Attorney Katie Rayburn is coordinating the investigation.
