Surveillance video shows young man shot and killed inside Brockton restaurant
BROCKTON - A young man was shot and killed at a restaurant in Brockton Friday night and investigators have released surveillance video hoping to generate leads in the case.
It happened around 8 p.m. at the Hibachi Sushi Supreme Buffet on Crescent Street.
New surveillance video released by the Plymouth County District Attorney Saturday showed a man entering the restaurant, pulling out a gun, and firing at a table directly across from a child.
The gunman ran away while customers scrambled to safety. The victim was later identified as 22-year-old Joe Araujo of Brockton.
"It's terrible. I mean you bring a child out to dinner and you don't think something like that is gonna happen," said John Monagle who told WBZ-TV he visits the buffet often. "I've never felt unsafe here."
"I have a guy come this morning to take a look at the cameras to see if they can find something," said Jacqueline Macedo who owns a Brazilian shop next door. "We feel unsafe," Macedo said.
Police said the shooting was a targeted attack and the public does not need to be concerned, but nearby store owners say they're taking precautions anyway.
"We start to close early. We have a lot of cameras all the place," Macedo said.
Brockton police ask that anyone who can identify the man in the video or have any information about the shooting call 508-941-0200.
