Man Killed As Fire Guts Manchester Triple Decker
MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) – A man was killed in a three-alarm fire early Friday morning at a home in Manchester.
The fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. in the triple decker on Joliette Street.
Manchester Fire Chief James Burkush told WBZ-TV smoke detectors woke up people on the second floor. They went to the third floor, saw a fire in the hallway and heard a man coughing.
Burkush said residents tried to get him but could not.
Firefighters eventually reached the man but he was found dead on the third floor.
He was identified as 31-year-old Charles Sullivan of Manchester.
Seven other people were in the building at the time of the fire and they all escaped safely.
The cause of the fire is still not known, but police said in a statement that the "initial investigation reveals no foul play."
Firefighters had to contend with single digit temperatures and one frozen hydrant in the neighborhood.
Damage is estimated at $200,000.
