Man Hit By Bat At Fenway Says It Felt 'Like A Sledgehammer'

BOSTON (CBS) -- A Red Sox fan hit by a broken bat at Saturday afternoon's game against the Houston Astros is recovering in his Connecticut home.

Kevin Sweeney was sitting in the stands along the third baseline when a broken bat flew over the netting and hit him in the head.

Sweeney says he's been a Red Sox fan and attended games since he was 6-years-old. He never saw the bat coming.

"Like a sledgehammer hit me in the back," Sweeney said. "At first I thought about the Boston Marathon and a bomb went off because I didn't think it was anything on the field that caused it."

"And then I realized everyone was looking at me and it was just my blood so something happened to me and I was dazed and seeing stars, but I was conscious and they were asking me a lot of questions, trying to make sure I don't have a concussion and I was able to answer the questions."

Sweeney was released from the hospital with several stitches to his head.

Sweeney is the second person to be hit in the head by a broken bat even though he was sitting behind the net.
