Man Gets Prison, Not Nearly 600 Pounds Of Pot He Anticipated

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A Massachusetts man will serve 28 months in prison after pleading guilty to being on the receiving end of nearly 600 pounds of marijuana destined for Peterborough, New Hampshire.

The pot, intercepted in Vermont, was accompanied by federal agents.

Prosecutors say 52-year-old Todd Burke of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, was waiting for the 579 pounds of marijuana at a Peterborough business on Sept. 24.

He pleaded guilty in March to attempted possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Agents also found marijuana and hashish at Burke's Fitchburg residence. Burke agreed to forfeit his interest in the property as part of a plea deal.

When he gets out of prison, Burke will be on supervised release for three years.
