Man Convicted In Fatal Stabbing Of Ex-Girlfriend In Marshfield

BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) — A Superior Court jury has convicted a 35-year-old man of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his former girlfriend in Marshfield.

The verdict against Marcelo Almeida was returned Thursday after just two hours of deliberations.

Almeida faces an automatic sentence of life in prison without parole.

Prosecutors say the victim, 24-year-old Patricia Frois, was stabbed 11 times in the neck, torso and head on Sept. 26, 2011 at the Fox Run Apartments.

Almeida fled the scene but was found several hours later, hiding in a shed with self-inflicted injuries.

Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz and friends and relatives of the victim testified at the trial, and her mother traveled from Brazil to attend the trial.

Cruz said he hoped the verdict would bring some closure to the family.
