Man Charged With Trying To Kidnap Girl At Merrimack Outlets
MERRIMACK, N.H. (CBS) — A Connecticut man has been charged with trying to kidnap a girl at the Merrimack Premium Outlets.
Police say 25-year-old Desmond Mighty of Windsor approached the girl as she left a restroom Wednesday afternoon, threw her down to the ground, pinned her and then threatened her.
The girl started screaming and that got the attention of a bystander who came to help.
Mighty ran away, according to officers, but they were able to track him down in the parking lot and arrest him.
After getting a search warrant for his car, police say they found two loaded guns and a large amount of marijuana.
He now faces several charges, including attempted kidnapping, assault, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a concealed gun.
Mighty was held overnight on $100,000 cash bail.
He will be arraigned Thursday in Merrimack District Court.
Police said the girl, who is under age 18, did not know Mighty.
Marc Rialdi, the mall's general manager, released this statement to WBZ-TV Thursday:
"At Merrimack Premium Outlets, the safety and security of our shoppers, retail tenants and employees is our top priority. Mall management and our security teams maintain a close working relationship with local law enforcement authorities to ensure that the appropriate security measures are being taken to help provide and maintain a safe environment at the shopping center, including in our common areas and parking lots. We are in full cooperation with the Merrimack Police Department on this matter."
