Malcom Brown: New Patriots Teammates Are Already On To Next Year
BOSTON (CBS) -- Though it was delayed a few weeks, Patriots first-round pick Malcom Brown finally got his day in the Gillette Stadium sun.
The defensive lineman out of Texas was introduced to the media on Wednesday morning, alongside Robert and Jonathan Kraft.
Brown, who said on draft day that he would be "the best player y'all have ever drafted," gave his initial impressions of being a Patriot.
"Just right from the get-go, you see the hard work, and you see everything that's thrown at you. So you've got to grasp it and go," Brown said.
He also shared his first impression of coach Bill Belichick.
"Great guy," Brown said. "He's my new coach now and he shows everybody a lot of love – tough love – and sometimes you need that."
The 21-year-old repeated many times that his focus at the moment is on one thing and one thing only: Working hard.
"I actually just walked up to Tom [Brady] and shook his hand and we just went to work. Everybody's trying to work right now," Brown said. "It's a learning experience. It's easy to learn right now because you're doing everything stage by stage. Everybody is trying to focus and work towards getting better next year."
And unsurprisingly, Brown relayed that his teammates are still following Belichick's "... on to Cincinnati" mind-set, with nobody dwelling on the accomplishment of winning last season's Super Bowl.
"Not really. They're just like us [rookies]. They come here to work every day and they want us to have the right mind-set going into next year," Brown said. "Nobody is really talking about last year. They're talking about the now and the future. They want to work hard, going forward and getting better next year."
