Police Kill Robbery Suspect, Officer Injured During Pursuit From Revere To Lynn

LYNN (CBS) – A suspect was fatally shot by police and an officer was injured after being pinned by a car during a pursuit in Lynn. It happened Monday morning on Witt Street just after 8 a.m.

The suspect, believed to be a white man, was wanted in Revere following a robbery at Walgreens on 430 Broadway. Witnesses said the suspect fled in a silver BMW.

A Revere Police officer saw the suspect vehicle on Route 107 and attempted to stop the driver, but he did not pull over.

Around 8:15 a.m., Revere officers notified Lynn Police the pursuit was headed into Lynn.

A Lynn officer working detail on the corner of Summer and Witt Streets saw the vehicle turn down Witt Street, which is a dead end, and ran to provide assistance.

The Essex District Attorney's office said the Lynn officer saw the Revere officer outside of his cruiser pinned by the BMW. That is when investigators say the Lynn officer fired his service weapon, killing the suspect.

Nine-year-old Abigail Montes says it happened right in front of her home. "I heard gunshots and people fighting and arguing," she said.

The Montes home surveillance cameras captured what happened after the shooting. You can see the Revere police officer being assisted by Lynn police. "My mom saw that the police was limping," Abigail said.

The incident frightened residents who just about to start their day. "We are all scared. Especially with the coronavirus stuff going on and people got to go out shooting people. What's this world coming to," neighbor Paul Carr said. "I've been living in Lynn for 30 years and this is the worst I seen it yet."

According to the Essex District Attorney's office, the Revere officer was taken to Mass General Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
