Lynn Officer Involved In Alleged Drug Deal Shooting Identified
LYNN (CBS) -- Authorities have released the name of the on-duty police officer who shot and killed an alleged drug dealer on Monday.
Lynn Police Detective Stephen Emery was working undercover when he confronted 23-year-old Rafael Suazo after an alleged drug deal.
Emery, an 18-year veteran of the police force, shot Suazo after he tried to run over the officer with his car, authorities said.
A drug task force saw the alleged drug buy around 11:30 a.m. on Jefferson Street. Authorities say the Emery, a member of the task force, showed his badge and then the suspect drove his green SUV at him, knocking him to the ground.
The officer was able to fire his gun once and hit the suspect, who then lost control of his vehicle and crashed it into two other cars on the street.
Suazo was MedFlighted to Mass. General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Essex District Attorney's Office is still investigating the shooting.
Sharona Landy, 32 and Vinchenzo Pintone, 33, both of Peabody, who allegedly bought heroin from Suazo have been charged with drug possession.
