Water shoots high above homes in Lynn after pipe breaks

LYNN – A water main break caused a geyser to flood a busy street in Lynn during the morning commute Tuesday.

It happened around 6 a.m. in the area of Ocean Street and Route 1A.

The water was shooting about 50 feet into the air.

"I've never seen it before. I just moved here a few months ago, but never seen anything like this," said Kyle Cote, who lives in the area.

Shalvoy said he started receiving messages from people wondering if the business was on fire.

"I've never seen anything like that and it was literally right in front of the shop. I'm like 'Nope, we're just taking a shower,'" Shalvoy said. "Built in the 1800s so I think it's going to take a little more than a water main to bring it to the ground."

Traffic was backed up for miles following the water main break, but the area has since reopened.
